2021 goodbye to a dark and sad year with one bright exception

2021 was hardly started before the first disaster struck. One of my children needed medical help and in the process I got a parking fine which made a huge negative economical impact on our economy. Parking fines in Denmark is not a slap of 50 euros. No. Some years ago the parliament allowed people to complain and because the parking firms then risked losing most of the cases, the parliament allowed them to increase the fines. 106 euro it became. There has not been a week where we as family has not addressed this loss. Like many Danes I pay half my income in taxes and a train ticket to work is 8 euros each way which makes it difficult to make it a profit to work unless you cut down on unnecessary costs like good of new dates and dentist. We always look in the “Too good to go” department in the supermarkets, so we can avoid going to bed hungry. 2021 was really the year where I realized that I have made poor choices when I was young. After the gymnasium I got a position in a shop and sp...

Lidt om IT

Tomorrow is V-day

Tomorrow at this time, my life might be destined for an end or my life will go on. I do not know. Tomorrow I will take the first shot of the vaccine against Covid-19. Why has it taken so long for me to decide? First of all, I am at the end of my life if I look at past male ancestors. My father died aged 63. My great-grandfather died at the age of 48. Heart inflammation which over time weakened the entire system for it to shut down in the end. There is not much left for me. I hope to spend the last few years doing the work I do now for Talentsoft in any capacity. I hope to live long enough to see my two children making their way in life. I hope for some quiet evenings relaxing together with my wife outside our home waiting for the inevitable but recent years have proven to me that nothing is certain. Back in 2012 my education as Merkonom which at some sites is translated into english as bachelor of commerce was abolished by the Danish government. I, who back in 1986 decided to ...

Keeping up with technologies

Billede
For some time I had a skillshare account, I use to keep you with technologies like MS-SQL, CSS, API and HTML. If you work widespread in an application, it is not everyday you use a specific topic, so I use Skillshare and the internal TS Academy to keep myself somehow updated. But it almost like exercise. Putting it into my Calender it the only way I keep myself fit both physical and on professional topics. You have to block your time so it is not suddenly used on other things.

Many, many years ago I ran a Marathon in Finland

Billede
I was going through some old papers as I am in the process of getting rid of all paper in my home if possible. Among the old items and document I found notes about my participation in Helsinki City Marathon on August 12, 1989. I had the start number 2000 which is kind of special. I remember it to this day. As I mentioned above, it was the second Marathon I ran. The first one was in the spring of 1989. I was aiming at at time of 4 hours but I was new to the game and had to learn a hard lesson. The routes for Marathon runs are unique. Where the route for Copenhagen Marathon at the time was a very flat route the route in Helsinki took us along the coastline where small hills meant that my rhythm was broken. While a bit stressing the route passed through beautiful areas in the eastern part of Helsinki and a part of the route was in Espoo. It was actually a loop starting from the Olympic stadion going along the coast line to Espoo and then by passing several bridges to the Helsinki Ci...

2020 was the year that almost wasn’t

Billede
It has been a difficult year for us, I guess for most. We tend to forget the first two months. It was the months where two major things happened in our family. First my daughter moved back home. Poor financials advice and guidance from social workers combined with declining health meant that I decided that the time was to move her back home where she lives with us to this day. It was not an easy move but we managed and are happy together all 4 as a family for the first time in many years. It will last until my son will attend university which we have to make happen summer 2022. In the end I of course hope that we will become empty-nesters but I do not care how many years it will take. The main goal is that both my children will follow a path they want to follow and find happiness with whatever they decide to work with. My son was in the Czech Republic with his school. I was kind of nervous for two reasons. First there is a general dislike for Danes in Prague due to some evil ho...

As the years goes by

We moved into our house in 1997. Time went by. Two children we raised. Time pasted very fast. Suddenly small things become big issues. Two such issues were dealt with today. The trees were not very big when we moved in but the climate changes resulted in parts of the trees falling down, so they had to go. Sad. But necessary.
